With Aston Villa’s reported chase for Bristol City centre-half Adam Webster ongoing and with fans eagerly awaiting some kind of breakthrough in the hunt for Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings, there are obviously alternatives available and with Brentford’s Ezri Konsa said to be available for only £12million, head coach Dean Smith already knows about him.
The talented 21-year-old started making a name for himself at Charlton Athletic, quickly establishing himself in their first team squad and as he departed for Griffin Park last summer for an undisclosed fee, he’d already got 77 starting appearances under his belt, with a further nine league showings from the bench.
Although Smith departed Brentford last year, they still worked together for a bit and he was a regular – ending the 2018/19 campaign with 47 starts.
Sky Sports have namechecked Fulham and Wolves as being potentially interested in him this summer, with the obligatory ‘tracked by a host of Premier League clubs’ thrown in for good measure but Webster for £30million or Konsa for £12million is an absolute no brainer for me.
Villa haven’t been directly linked with him yet having had a scout around, but given the Smith connection, it’s surely only a matter of time.
Ezri Konsa has a £12m release clause. Surely we should be all over this?! #AVFC

We really should he’s quality and fits what we are trying to build. Would rather have him than Webster.
