Well, don`t shoot the messenger, it`s a quiet news day and Gabby is back in the news!

Steve Bruce has identified Gabby as the best in this league if fit.

73 goals in 323 league appearances and just 28 in the last six seasons [including the current one] – ?

I don`t think I need to comment further really….

It does look like he wants to do his well paid job now. It`s a shame that wasn`t the case last season (he wasn`t the only one) or when he didn`t like particular managers. But hey, if Bruce can see him getting back to his best (4 or 5 goals a season wasn`t it?) then………

Some replies to this:

I`m looking for the positive responses…

Bruce said on the former England striker:

“Gabby made an instant impact when he came on against Blackburn. I want that for 90 minutes now rather than 20-25 minutes. He`s ahead of schedule. I didn`t think he`d respond the way he has done. Fair play to him. He`s been battered here for a while, for whatever reason. Maybe he`s say he deserved it at times. But make no mistake he wants to be a player again here.”

Adding, “In the moments he`s played, he`s showed exactly what he wants to do. The rest is up to him. There`s no better centre-forward in this league if he`s fit.”

This response did make me laugh (you gorra laff in footie innit?!)

Personally? I think he`s mugged us off for too long. I won`t be one of the fans booing a player whilst playing but much like him when he scored v Norwich City, I`ll not be spending too much time worrying about celebrating his decision to finally want to do his job again. I bet most of you can`t pick and choose the managers you work for or when you feel like doing your job can you? I doubt many of you would take to instragram after scoring for your boyhood club (well, think that was Arsenal but you get my point) saying ‘that was for all the haters, I hope I ruined your Saturday night` or being out partying the day Aston Villa were relegated?

But hey, if he gets back to scoring, doing his job, then I`d salute Bruce for doing what no manager has been able to do for years. Maybe (MAYBE) he`s finally woken up that his career, age wise, is coming to an end and he wants to bookend it slightly better than the disgraceful decline over the goodness knows how many years? I remain to be convinced but I guess I hope to be convinced.

Sadly because of this second coming (10th coming?) we might lose a very promising youngster.

The Sun say that Watford and Rangers are after Rushian Hepburn-Murphy. Bruce has said he wants to keep the player whose contract expires next summer. Would you hang around with so many including Gabby ahead of you?

I said in my top five comments in the Sun blog I`m doing:

4) Stop dreaming of Gabby Agbonlahor becoming what he never was, a prolific striker.

He had one job to do and that was to turn up fit for the start of the season. He failed.

Still, if Steve Bruce wants to try, then fair play. Be warned though, he`s seen off many managers before you!

Juan Mourep on the situation, fair and balanced to be honest:

Very few wanted to see him in the shirt again, that definitely included me

There are murmurings of ‘private problems’ and ‘dark places’ Vassell even did a piece recently on the problems of playing for your boyhood team and the pressures that can bring, he mentioned Gabby and the effects of the negative support he was getting, stating that he should leave for his own good

Depression would account for his weight gain, his poor performance levels, his poor attitude, I know we all like to think that nothing would stop us fighting with every last breath to avoid relegation, but the fact is we don’t know, we haven’t walked any miles in his brightly coloured football boots, we don’t know what he has been through, but I would hope that my fellow Villans know enough about depression and other mental health issues to not pass judgement without knowing the facts

Stevie the Bruce sees something, he sees more of him than we do, he refused a loan move to fight to get back in the team, he actually did that, I never saw that one coming, so whatever the Bruce decides, he gets my backing.

Hey ho, we will see. I’d rather not be talking about him at all, I’d loved to have seen him gone. I know some disagree and I’ll hope you are 100% right.
