Axe To Drop As Betting Frozen?

David O’Leary was already the favourite option for the sack or resignation according to the bookies last week. Most had him on at 2/1 as the axe of Doug Ellis was rumoured to be coming out of storage and being sharpened. According to Bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth, ‘punters were all over O’Leary like a rash on Friday night’. Are they sure it wasn’t hives?

Anyway, betting has now been suspended after the price dropped from 5/2 to 7/4.

Steve Freeth said: “Punters were all over O`Leary like a rash on Friday night and after the news of a ‘mutiny` at Villa Park we`ve decided to temporarily suspend the market. The one thing that could hinder backers of O`Leary is that Ellis may not want to pay too much compensation for sacking the Irishman and he could wait for an approach from manager-less Sunderland.”

Villa also aren’t far behind Watford, Sheffield United, Reading, Wigan, Fulham and Charlton in the relegation bets as you can get odds of 9/2 for Villa to go down at the moment. It wasn’t that many years ago when you used to get those odds for Villa to win the Premiership.
