Axel Tuanzebe was full of praise for James Chester, saying the Aston Villa defender is a “good person” that “helps me” on the pitch. Tuanzebe again left Manchester United for a season-long loan at Villa Park which saw him renew acquaintances with Chester, a former United defender. He was asked on Manchester United’s official website what his thoughts were of the Villa captain and only had good things to say.

Tuanzebe said: “I am sure everyone who has played with James Chester can only say he is a good person. As a captain, he is there when you need him and those characteristics show whilst we are on the pitch. I help him and he helps me. I am feeling a strong partnership forming”. Tuanzebe and Chester have partnered each other at the heart of the defence this season, as Dean Smith doesn’t have another natural option at centre-back.

John Terry and Chester regularly played together in 2017/18, but the former is now playing assistant to Smith which left a void to fill in defence. Tuanzebe, who only made four Championship starts in his first loan spell at Villa Park, has featured 14 times in the league and has helped the Midlands outfit earn back-to-back wins with clean sheets in both.

Villa are 11th in the table with 24 points from 17 games, four points adrift of the playoffs. They next welcome Birmingham City to Villa Park on November 25. Smith might have to bring in another centre-back in January, as the club are lacking depth in a key area. Injury to Tuanzebe or Chester would leave the Villa boss with a selection headache.
