I saw Babel in the U21 championship and although he didn’t overly impress, he most certainly is a talent.

Fans have whinged at the £8 million paid for the best young captain in England and most pundits best player of the tournament what would they have said about a young kid who has yet to play in the Premiership.

Today the Express and Star suggested O’Neill was prevaricating over paying for the French U21 keeper and an England full back, not many on this site saw it as a failing, yet Liverpool spend so much on Babel.

I’ve always thought the price paid for Young far too high as do many pundits, I now gather, was it? Maybe in January, now I’d doubt it.

Has that decision, that implied criticism from within football on the price affected O’Neill’s present day thinking. I believe not, I just can’t see O’Neill not having the belief in his own convictions to worry that much about others criticisms.

As I said when the height of the prevarication was there over Reo Coker’s price, if he’s going to cost 12 million so what? But O’Neill knows the limitations within the club, he alone knows how far he can go maybe its not as high as some of us want.

Thing is of course we don’t have too many tried and tested strikers to start with unlike Liverpool. If we had maybe we could blast 11 million for a star of the future too, not that we need another, we must have more than most already.

Not that many outside of the big 3 have spent that big, Spurs of course, have spent both big and often, W Ham have promised much and bought much but spent little they got 8.5 off us, and that’s it.
The majority of spends so far aren’t as big as the excess of money supposedly available would have suggested and certainly not of the level of most expectations, surely.

When you look we haven’t bought many and most everyone else has, but few have spent the big bucks even on tried and tested talent let alone U21 stars of the future, but I’ve a feeling some will and I still can’t see why we won’t be one of them.

I just wish it would be sooner than later mind, but then again historically the seasons biggest transfers often happen on August the 31st or thereabouts so there’s till hope.
