England U21 manager Stuart Pearce said “These players have done the nation proud in this tournament so far and I have no doubt that many of them could be playing World Cup football in 2018. It’s performances in tournaments like this that capture the imagination of youngsters at home who could also be starring for their country in nine years time. My passion for youth football is one of the reasons I am so pleased all of the squad have pledged their support to the England 2018 World Cup bid as a tournament in England could inspire a new generation of football fans and players.”

Adding, “We want to get as many people joining these lads in their support of the bid at www.england2018bid.com to give us the best possible chance of winning it and seeing some of these under 21 players playing in a World Cup in England.”

Mark Noble said “I’ve been lucky enough to experience some big tournaments now at Under 21 level and would love to be part of a World Cup in England if we were to win the right to host the tournament.” Adding, “We hope people at home will join us by registering their support at www.england2018bid.com.”

  • U21’s currently 2-0 up v Sweden. Gabby gets a 2nd yellow of the tournament so would miss the final if we get through, which judging by how we are playing at the moment, we should.

  • good job England, through on penalties, makes for a nice revenge from going out two seasons ago. Shame that Hart, Campbell and Gabby are out of the final, the yellow for Hart was harsh to say the least

  • Well i was around in ’66 and boy was that a great day. Hope i will live to see the day when the next World Cup is held in England – 2018 sounds just about right for me.
