Nathan Baker has today put pen to paper on a three year extension at Aston Villa.

The 22 year old is now contracted at the club until the summer of 2016.

Speaking to the Official Site the centre half explained that he was ‘really excited to be part of this young, new squad that’s being built at Villa’, never really expected him to say any different really.

Good to see we’ve signed him up for longer as his performances last season did improve as the season drew on and with a bit more confidence, and learning to cut out a few mistakes and positional lapses he does have all the raw qualities to be a top defender in the coming years.

‘We felt that we got stronger as the season went on, the fans could see the progress we were making and they got behind us really strongly. That was felt keenly by the players. Hopefully, next season we can keep improving and be even better.’

Baker says that signing the extension is extra special for him as having come through the Academy and now being part of Lambert’s revolution it’s a real achievement for him, and of course it shows the other lads in the Academy that knuckling down and working hard will have its rewards.
