Barry Bannan has praised Scotland boss Craig Levein and the SFA for the support they showed him over the drink/drive incident and he’s determined to repay that faith:
‘I am pleased to be back, that incident meant I couldn’t be involved in the squad, but the gaffer has shown great faith in me because I haven’t played a lot since the Cyprus game. Before the last squad was announced, the SFA spoke to me and they were brilliant. I knew I wouldn’t be involved and that was the right decision. I had great respect for the gaffer before this happened, but that increased when he explained to me about why I wasn’t going to be involved.’
Bannan adds that Levein was fair to him in the phonecall, he didn’t shirk the mistake that Barry had made and he didn’t shy away from giving him a rollocking for it, but at the same time he was supportive saying people make mistakes and do dumb things, and the secret is to learn from them and never repeat those errors.
