Bannan, our diminutive midfielder is looking forward to another Championship loan spell and hopes this one will be as productive as his last.

Bannan was on loan for a period of time with Derby last season, making 10 appearances and impressing Nigel Clough in the process so I’m surprised they haven’t come back in for him.

Instead he’s off to Blackpool on a two month loan and the youngsters believes it will be a ‘great challenge’.

He’s also looking forward to the opportunity of impressing Martin O’Neill again by staring in competitive games in the hope of getting some first team action when he returns.

‘It will give the manager an idea of whether I am ready for first team football at Villa. He will want to see how I cope with playing every week and I’m sure he’ll be following my progress and that of the other lads on loan at the moment.’

As for any comments about working with the slightly ‘tapped’ (that’s the politically correct phrase these days for a loveable lunatic isn’t it) Ian Holloway, the wee man said:

‘I’ve seen him on Soccer AM a few times and he’s a funny man but I am sure when it comes to the business of winning football matches, he’s as serious as they come.’
