Villa star Milan Baros is still a major doubt for the Czech Republic’s World Cup opener against the USA later today. The striker will face a late fitness test as his manager gives him every opportunity to feature but says he won’t risk the players health.

Coach Karel Bruckner said last night: ‘The Milan Baros situation hasn’t changed at all and I have nothing more to say on the topic. I truly cannot say whether or not he will play in the game. I don’t know, our doctors don’t know. I don’t want to put as a percentage. His situation is the same as yesterday. If the player is not 100 per cent fit, we will not risk his health.’

I will update this article if any further info becomes available.

  • With the injury to Koller looking fairly serious, no doubt the Czechs will want to rush Baros back for their second game, fully fit or not. Doug must be sweating.

  • I hope he gets fit. Every player of his quality deserves to play in the greatest tournament in the world.
