Barry Being Honest

Gareth Barry has been unsurprisingly honest in his most recent interview, admitting that confidence is low and that blowing 4th place would be disappointing.

It’s a stark contrast to the normal press we get from the club, but it’s this sort of honesty I admire and love – it shows the players feel the same as the fans and that they are becoming equally as disappointed with how events have turned lately.

Speaking to the E&S as we look forward to ‘must not lose’ matches against Liverpool and Man U, Barry said:

“Looking at the bigger picture, we`d have still taken it, but we are sitting here low on confidence. We are one game away from a good performance and turning it around again, so we cannot worry about it too much. We have to be positive.’

As fans we all have our own theories on why we’ve had such a bad spell lately, and whilst Barry does not (rightly) hint or suggest any theories of his own, it is clear that he is becoming frustrated with the run of form we are on.

“Three months ago we could not stop winning and now we can`t buy a win. It is about confidence.’

It may not be on the cards, but Barry is hoping we can pull ourselves back together, and find the vein of form we had earlier in the season and produce even only one storming performance out of the next two games to reinvigorate us and save us all from seeing the season as a missed opportunity.

‘We have two tough fixtures coming up and if we deliver a performance-of-the-season against one of them, it could catapult us to a good finish.

“The way the season has gone it will be a disappointment if we don`t finish fourth, but we are not writing ourselves off.

“If we don`t give ourselves a chance then no-one will.”

The season certainly isn’t over yet, but we need to change direction quickly if we want to save 4th place.

We all know the games we blew it in, let’s hope as we look back on the season we can identify the games we saved it in.
