Gareth Barry has put pen to paper on a deal taking him to Manchester City according to their official site tonight.

They are reporting that a deal has been done for £12 million for our former captain and England midfielder.

There is obviously no gossip about his wage, however they do state that Barry is on a 5 year contract and that Mark Hughes is very happy to have him teaming up with their Player of the Year Steve Ireland, who himself has signed a new 5 year deal.

More as we get it.

  • WOW…can’t belive he signed. You guys better hope that MON has plan up his sleeve because you can?t buy nothing with 11mill in the market these days.

  • Yea doubled his money on 100k a week is the rumour. Not too bothered always thought he would move, better to city as we prob recieved more than we would have from liverpool. At least its early in the window so MON has no excuse now! 2 vital players to replace (laursen also) time to get on it.

  • God I hope we finish above City. At least it won’t be a sorry saga like last year . Time to forget…… until he comes back that is !!!! So who we gonna buy ???

  • Didnt take him long to think about it! Such a shame you’ve lost so much credibility Mr Barry. Such a shame you’ll be playing under the incompetant Mark Hughes. Such as shame you’ll be be taunted by ALL fans as a money grabbing so and so when ever you play away from Eastlands. Such a shame because you gave us 100% most of the time, became an England regular and had a real chance of challenging 4th place next term. Cue the “ambitous project at Citeh” and “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Villa” quotes from Mr Barry. Such as shame that a liar has no credibility…..

  • Went for 12 million….Makes Lerner and O’Neil look like a joke for saying they wouldn’t sell him for that. Makes Barry look like a joke for saying he wants Champions league when even if City qualify for it Barry has two more years before he gets that…he’ll be!! Our midfield now looks as weak as our defence and our attacking presence looks weak at the moment. Lets hear another moan from MON that our squad is sooo small. How about building the squad before selling our biggest players. All the talk of Defour when this guy is not proven in any English league….Starting to look like a joke again…

  • Have to say I am gutted to see such a quality player, who has served the club so well, leave for pastures new. Losing him for Champions League Football would have softened the blow, but to Man Citeh is a disappointment. Unfortunately they are likely to spend another £250m on top of the £130m they spent last season, and that money is almost certain to make them serious players for the next few seasons. From Gareths point of view he owes us nothing. He has given us the best years of his career, has been a great servant (other than his out of character outburst at the end of the previous season) and he has generated significant money for the club. Compare this to Mellberg who cost £5m, gave us 6 years service, then worked it so that he could leave on a free transfer, meaning the club couldn’t even use a transfer feeto replace him(and he left a hero?????). Having watched the Villa since the age of 6, Gareth has been a Villa man for over a quarter of my life, so it is like losing a member of the family. No doubt there are thousands of younger Villa supporters who have only ever know the club with Gareth as an integral part of it. But we will move on. Manure never worried about losing Keane, Cantona, Robson, Van Nistleroy, Beckham etc. Chelski improved after losing Zola, Gullitt and others. Lets hope M’ON and Randy have a fruitful summer. Thanks for the memories Gareth. Good luck for the future. Just can’t help wishing you had stayed a 1 club man. Up The Villa.

  • Forget him chaps. We’ve won bugger all with him so i see it as a blessing to get a younger, faster, more creative centre mid in who can score goals. 12m will go straight on Defour i rekon (Uless MON has something else up his sleeve). Barry couldnt give a toss about Villa or us fans anymore so please lets wish him all the best and start getting excited about who we’re gonna replace him with. HE IS REPLACEABLE, PLEASE DONT THINK OTHERWISE. Mon knows what he’s doing thats why he hasnt played hardball like he did with Liverpoo. 1 day into the window an he’s gone. MON, i salute you. UP THE FREAKIN VILLA!!!

  • Greed greed greed. Too much money in football. So much for all the Champions League bull. At least he didn’t go to the fat Spanish Waiter anyhow.

  • Funny how Lerner & O’Neill said they wouldn’t sell him but as soon as the season ticket deadline has passed he has gone!!

  • Good luck to Gareth..even tho Man City is a surprise move. Hughes somehow convinced him that they were going to qualify for the CL and probably also made him privvy to who he was going to bring in….and a 5 year deal is an aggressive one at that too.
From me..good luck Gareth…thank you for the years….

Villa move on….Mon and Randy have their work cut out..

  • Why are people criticising Mon and Randy for selling up? They wouldnt have done it for no reason? They obviously need the cash for something. I cant see them being bullied into it after last summer. MONs got a replacement lined up already. We’re bigger than Gareth Barry. Yes he’s a good player and an england international but the commitment had gone and MON and Randy know that better than any of us.

  • this must be a real kick in the teeth for you guys, a CL team would at least be excusable, but a team who are not even in Europe…
