Barry’s Form Suffering?

Fabio Heskey Capello believes the Liverpool saga has caused a dip in Gareth Barry’s form.

Speaking to the press after England’s disasterous performance against the Czech Republic, the brainiac in charge said:

‘At the moment the Liverpool situation means he is not at his best. That is my opinion.’

And it’s an opinion he’s fully entitled to. Just like my opinion is he’s talking out his Italy.

Afterall, can anyone seriously listen to a man who brings back Emile Heskey, plays the serial underperformer Gerrard on th left of midfield, persists with Fatty Frank in the middle, continues to select Defoe, Woodgate, even Matthew ‘I’m not injured today boss’ Upson was in the squad.

Speaking on the official site, Martin O’Neill rubbished the claims.

He didn’t really need to bother considering we’ve all seen Gareth’s performances against FH and Man City. Maybe Capello would have a different opinion if Barry had scored against Man City. Then again this is the Capello who left Gabby and Ash out so maybe his perception of players is really that different.

Maybe he’d have a different opinion if he’d picked a decent England side for the Czech game, maybe then Barry wouldn’t have looked so bad. It’s not easy to shine when you are performing alongside amatuers against 11 professionals.

Anyway, O’Neill said:

‘He’s our player and he’s played exceptionally well in the last couple of games for us.

‘Personally speaking, that’s the most important thing for Aston Villa and our supporters. We’re delighted with his commitment and we would be delighted if he stayed.’

Exactly. Well done Capello, in 5 games you’ve managed to turn into every other England manager we’ve had. For £6 million I thought he’d be unique or at least last more than 5 games before picking the standard dross.
