Paul Lambert has said he doesn’t want fans to view Christian Benteke as our ‘saviour’ but does admit he’s been a handful in training and should have a big career ahead of him.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the Saints clash, Lambert said of our bulky youngster:

‘Once he settles and grasps the language well, he will be fine. He was a handful the other weekend and he’s been a handful in training this week. He’s only 21 though, people have to remember that. He will make mistakes like everybody else. I am not putting too much emphasis on him, in terms of him being our saviour, not at all. But he will certainly help the team.’

Sensible outlook really, everyone is getting carried away with Benteke, me included, but we do need to give him time to settle in properly and learn the language so he can really push on.
