Patrik Berger could well be going stateside come the summer following the lead of America’s new darling David Beckham in Major League Soccer.

The 33-year-old former Czech Republic international midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer says of the rumours:

‘That is an option, but nothing has been done. I have a contract with Villa until the end of the season and we will see what happens. To be honest, things in football change so very, very quickly. Obviously I am getting old, but the older I get the more I want to play. It is my job and I love it. Definitely, if I can be injury-free, I would still want to continue playing after this season. Where? I don’t know. Time will tell.’

He also told the official site of his sub appearance against Watford and his fall out with Martin O’Neill: ‘I really enjoyed that run-out though – every single minute. I hadn’t played in front of a big crowd like that for a long, long time. What happened, happened and we have closed that particular door. We are not talking about that particular incident now, we have forgotten all about it. Now we move on, that is life, things happen. Sometimes you are up, sometimes down and sometimes you have different opinions to somebody else.’

‘Life goes on. We are all only human. I am just glad that we have cleared the air between us – at the end of the day it is all about Aston Villa. Not about me or the manager – but about Aston Villa. We had a good chat together; basically we cleared the air between us. It was a good meeting and I enjoyed it. At the end of it, he said there was a possibility that he would use me until the end of the season. We just made a line and he basically said: ‘Now you will be the same as anybody else in the team – if you deserve to play, you will play.’
