With plenty of scenes of celebration on Monday at Wembley Stadium as Aston Villa took a 2-1 victory over Derby County in the Championship Play-Off Final to return to the Premier League, new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens also had massive smiles on their faces.

Chief Executive Officer Christian Purslow had already been quoted as saying we were 12 months ahead of schedule and speaking to Talksport himself following the fulltime whistle, Sawiris’ own words would’ve further motivated the fanbase when it comes to just how bright the future could now be again.

“I still can’t believe we’re in the Premier League. I’m still getting the thought through my mind. This is the second best feeling since my daughter was born! This is why I came into English football. I’m a very bad loser, everybody who knows me knows that I hate losing, so we’re here to win. Dean and the squad were amazing, they had belief, and the fans were great. And with such a great fanbase, the sky is the limit!”

Edens added.

“I feel so fortunate to be a part of it. It’s an amazing thing to be part of this great club and its history and to be back in the Premier League, it means everything. Our goal was to get into the Premier League, but that is just the beginning. We want to build one of the best clubs in the world, so this is a major step in that direction. It’s just so exciting.”

Nobody should be getting too carried away at this stage, next season we can hope for more than just simply survival but it’s going to be a big summer and there are plenty of changes and improvements we can expect off pitch as well.

But at least there is hope and optimism now as only a few months ago, things looked very different.

Patience will be key.
