Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Wigan Athletic at Villa Park was hardly plain sailing for Aston Villa as we needed a late stoppage-time winner from Birkir Bjarnason to make it two wins from two in our 2018/19 Championship campaign.
A difficult summer had given rise to a number of emotions but on the pitch at least, we are doing just enough to build up our form and provide a nice distraction. Wigan had plenty of distractions, a couple of debuts, a first sight of our new pitch when even having a pitch had been in doubt at one stage, but undoubtedly a couple of players stole the show.
Former Hibernian midfielder John McGinn was one of them, James Chester another and Jack Grealish’s own showing gave everyone something to celebrate as the permanent transfer window slammed shut last week and he remained at Bodymoor Heath.
Great win today, that’s what it’s all about, last minute wins! On to Tuesdays game in the cup! Thankyou to the villa fans for the wonderful reception ❤️⚽️ pic.twitter.com/WPEwgRaGhC

Jack, you’re well loved here. Give it one more season to get us back in the Prem, I’m sure once we’re there we will fly with the new owners.

@JackGrealish1 and @jmcginn7 if you two can keep playing like you did today you will cause a lot of teams problems. VTID

That’s just a small taste of the love from fans, and even then it probably doesn’t do the reactions justice.
