A short time ago this evening, Scottish Championship side Ayr United confirmed the capture of highly rated young Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo on a loan spell for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.
18-year-old Sinisalo has been a regular for Mark Delaney’s Under 23 side and the 6 ft 2in stopper is also a regular at Under 19 level for Finland and this is another good move from our point of view as it means he’ll continue to develop at a better level than the Under 23 game can provide and taste proper football, instead of stalling like so many talented youngsters have at the club in recent years.
As fans may remember, head coach Dean Smith had drafted him up to the first team group for training last season and big things are expected from the lad in the years to come.
For a little taste of him in action…

Ayr manager Mark Kerr said of the capture.
“Villa consider Viljami one of the best of his age, anywhere in Europe. He is extremely highly rated and has been training with the Villa first team for the last year. We have had him up to have a look at him and he has shown us the level of his potential and our goalkeeping coach has been hugely impressed by him.”
I believe he will go straight into their match day squad for an upcoming friendly with Falkirk and it’ll be interesting to see how much game time he gets as Kerr’s words don’t seem to imply he’ll just be warming the bench.
