Midfielder Birkir Bjarnason has been speaking about how it’s his time to shine as he looks to get his Aston Villa career back up and running after his knee injury.
Having arrived from FC Basel back in the January transfer window, he did go on to make five starting appearances for us along with three showings from the bench as he adjusted to life at his new club and in England but then missed the end of the campaign having picked up a knee injury in the game against Rotherham United.
With one competitive game since to his name, a World Cup tie against Croatia for Iceland where he got just shy of 82 minutes under his belt, he’s now rarely to go in our pre season campaign.
Already showing his fitness, taking full part in our pre season training camp in Portugal, Thor as he’s affectionately known is now hoping to have a big impact this season as we go for promotion back to the Premier League.
Speaking to the Official Site he explained.
‘When I joined, I managed to get into the team and I felt good. It was so disappointing to get injured. The staff at Villa were great and actually they got me back quite quickly. I kept positive. It`s a new start for me this season. I think it`s going to be very good.’
He went on to say.
‘I feel very well now. I had a good rest over the summer but also managed to get a game in too with the national team. I feel really good. The training camp in Portugal has been very good. The weather has been superb, the facilities are great and training has been intense and hard – but we need that to get fit for the season. It`s good to get started now for me.’
With fans only having an impression of the type of player he is from last season, he ended by saying hopefully we can expect the following.
‘The fans can expect a hard-working midfielder, I like to get in the box and I like to score goals. I feel I can offer all kinds of things.’
