1) So how is your league season shaping up so far?

I`ve been pleased with our season to date. We are challenging well in Europe which is great to see and our league form has been okay. I do feel we would be doing a tad better if luck had been on our side and an injury list would stop growing for a month at least.

2) Well done so far in Europe, is Mark Hughes the man to take Blackburn forward and what, realistically, do Rovers fans expect achievement wise?

Hughes is definitely the man to take us forward but the more we achieve, the chances of him being snapped up by a big club increases (and I don`t mean Newcastle when I say big club). It will be great if we can continue to perform in Europe and perhaps enjoy a lengthy period in the competition. League form needs to improve though, starting on Sunday.

3) Which Blackburn player should Villa fear this weekend and is Lilly Savage going to be fit (for what I’ll leave with you!)?

It is unlikely Savage will be fit for the next few games and even if he is I doubt Hughes will risk him. You should definitely fear Nonda. I`ve been saying it for a while now that he is due a goal and when it arrives it should open the floodgates. Gamst looked like himself again in midweek so he will need to be watched.

4) Which Villa player do you fear?

Villa have some interesting players and for me the biggest threat will come from either Petrov or Baros. I know Baros has been out of form, but like Nonda he is due a goal and he did score the winner against us last season in this fixture. Petrov is just brilliant as well. He would have been the ideal replacement for Tugay.

5) What is your opinion of Aston Villa?

Villa are an under-achieving club who are generally boring to watch [ouch, ed] and would have continued to languish in mid-table mediocrity for a while but for the recent changes. Give O`Neill a year or so after he has spent some money and bought in a couple of players he wants and then I`m sure Villa will have every chance to be a force again. Especially building around players like Barry, Moore, Agbonlahor and Davis.

6) What is your opinion of Martin O’Neill?

Martin O`Neill is a genius. Almost as good as Hughes!!!!

7) If there was one Villa player you could swap with one Blackburn player, who would you take and who would we get!?

Well I would definitely give you Gray, because he is poor and his name has suited Villa`s football in recent years. I would take, erm, does it have to be just one? Okay well this may come as a surprise but I`d take Baros. Would have said Barry because he is quality but we have a good left-sided player already in Gamst, so I shall go for Baros.

8) What is your match prediction for Sunday?

1-1. We will score first and you will equalise. There will be a penalty in there somewhere.

With thanks to James Watson, Vital Blackburn co-ed

  • yes – villa have been dour to watch but its a bit rich when the comment comes from a blackburn fan…at least our fans turn up for home games though.

  • And mark hughes has really got blackburn playing sexy football, i dont think so, more like sexy hoof ball.

  • Always thoroughly enjoy reading these pre-match rival supporter interviews. They give a very good insight into how our rivals view us. Can imagine that a lot of time and trouble goes into putting them together, so take a well deserved bow Mr Fear. Always

  • I echo glensiders comments about the enjoyable read. Do you think it possible that Sparky has developed a hoof ball and ankle nipping style because of the players he has? However they can be difficult to beat. Having said that I think we will win.

  • I have to admit, although I maybe don’t agree with all my co-ed has said (see my answers) I have to say hand on heart Rovers are a better footballing side than they are given credit for. Maybe back along their tag would have right, but they are certainly

  • Morning Villa fans. I feel you are being a tad harsh o Rovers as we do play some decent football. Granted we are still competitive at the same time but you only have to see what players like Tugay, Benni, Gamst and Bentley can do to believe that. Please d

  • Yes, Hughes has turned Rovers around, and I personally think that they’ll finish top eight this season, if not higher. Difficult to beat.
