The reserve match – due to be played at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium tonight – has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

Villa reserves were due to play Leeds United with Patrik Berger expected to make his comeback following a long lay off due to a knee injury.

Rookie defender Gary Cahill was also hoping to build on his match fitness following a season long struggle with injuries.

  • It would be nice to see Cahill pushing for a first team place before the end of the season as its hardly likely we are going to be relying on big name signings this summer!

  • It is a big blow, but i always think theres to much emphasis placed on playing matches to get fit. Send the guys out running for 2 hours every night surely trhat’ll do it?

  • It’ll be good to get both Cahill and Berger back into the first team squad, both fully fit, and pushing for starting places. Berger if he can indeed stay operational, will add much needed guile to our midfield. Hopefully he can strike up a partnership wit
