Martin Laursen has revealed his shock at being on the losing end against Boro on Sunday.

Speaking on the official site, Laursen agreed with O’Neill’s comments that when you cannot win a match, you don’t go and lose it. In Laursen’s case he actually thought we would go on and secure the win after our goal and he didn’t believe we were in any real danger.

‘It wasn’t our best performance – but I never saw us losing the game. It was a massive disappointment.

‘We were all aware, as the manager said, that if we didn’t have enough on the day to beat them, we shouldn’t be getting beat. It was a major disappointment.

‘When we went in at half-time, we believed we could go on to win the game. Our first goal was poor defensively but then Steve scored a great goal and everything was fine again.

‘The equaliser gave us that boost of confidence and we fancied our chances of scoring again because we are so good going forward.

‘But it never really happened for us overall. We had a few chances but not much.

‘But I never saw us losing the game. That was a shock.’

With two easy games coming up against Arsenal and Manchester United, the potentially previously lost 6 points against Newcastle and Boro could well come back to haunt us.
