Martin O’Neill has stated today that John Carew and Wilfred Bouma are now back in full training at Bodymoor Heath.

Bouma has been out for 6 months with a dislocated ankle and Carew as we all know has been sidelined with a back injury.

Speaking on the official site O’Neill said:

‘Both John and Freddie are doing some training now. They are training with the first team and have done a little bit extra too. It is very encouraging.

‘Freddie has been out for a fairly lengthy time now and is still feeling pretty stiff. That is going to be natural, as the doctors have said.

‘He may feel that sort of stiffness for six or seven months. But it shouldn’t prevent him from continuing on in the same vein.

‘John is doing fine. He is still short of real, complete match fitness – as you would expect – but at least he is training and there has been no reaction so far. That is very encouraging.’

Now if we can sort out Martin Laursen and let all 3 recover fitness without pushing them it’ll be a big boost to the first team squad.

The worst thing we can do now is rush any of them back like we did with Laursen and make anything worse. With Ash out for 3 matches and no real timeline for Laursen, Bouma and Carew to be fit enough for a competative match the need to strengthen our squad has never been stronger.
