Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Freddy Bouma will miss the rest of the season after further complications arose over the last few weeks.

Speaking on the official site, O’Neill confirmed that Bouma had now undergone keyhole surgery on his ankle to remove the floating bits of bone that were discovered.

‘Freddy will miss the rest of the season. It’s been a wretched time for him.

‘He has gone over to see the specialist who helped him with the injury originally.

‘He has gone in for some keyhole surgery to remove some of the particles that have been floating around. Whether they’ve been there for a week or a few months, we’re not sure. But it’s causing him discomfort.

‘The long and short of it is that he’ll be out for the rest of the season. But he should, with a bit of luck, come roaring back during pre-season.’

Not the best news in the world but I think we all expected it after the last bout of news that came out of the club. But on the upside at least Freddy should be back with us from the start of preseason training and if he can recover his form it could be the making of Shorey and we’ll have serious competition for the left back spot.
