Aston Villa left-back Wilfred Bouma has signed a 2-year contract extension, with an option for a third year.
The big Dutchman is currently recovering following the horrific injury he suffered in the Inter-Toto cup match against Odense BK, a massive blow for Villa as Bouma looked set for another fantastic season, having been a rather solid portion of last season`s defensive line.
The injury, coupled with that of prospect full-back Stephen O`Halloran prompted manager Martin O`Neill to make an extra move in the transfer market, signing Reading`s Nicky Shorey for an undisclosed fee.
Despite the long-term absence, Martin O`Neill has sought to keep the Netherlands international at Villa Park.
Great news for the club and I dare say perfect medicine for Wilf as he continues his journey back to fitness after the dislocated ankle.
