Dutch international Wilfred Bouma is out to prove his critics wrong and show that he isn’t a Villa flop.

Bouma cost £3.5million in a transfer from PSV Eindhoven but has struggled to make an impact due to injuries. He has started only 12 games (11 Prem) since joining to give Jlloyd Samuel some much needed competition for the left-back position.

It is hoped he will feature, along with Craig Gardner, in the reserves game v Leeds on March 7 after he returned to training following a knee injury which he picked up at the end of December.

Bouma told The Mail: ‘I’m back on the pitches and training with the rest of the lads. The pain has gone, so I’m glad to be back out there, because it’s really frustrating to train all alone. The first couple of weeks there was no improvement and that was hard, but luckily it’s much better now and I hope to be back in the squad soon.’

Adding that the injury took longer to heal than he had anticipated and ‘It was a pity that the injury came when it did, because I think I was in a good run.’
