Freddy Bouma is set to undergo further ankle surgery and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 30 year old Dutch leftback, who has been missing since our Intertwobob match against Odense had been making steady progress the last few weeks and all had been hopeful he would be ready for a few cameo appearances towards the end of the season.

However, unfortunately for Freddy a scan has revealed that fragments of his bone have broken off in the ankle and he will now not return before next season.

Speaking to the press, O’Neill said:

‘He may need a bit of keyhole surgery. If he does that might prevent him from coming back this season.’

Personally if he has bits of bone floating around I can’t see how he can’t have surgery. It’s much better to wipe this season from the mind, and concentrate on getting him 150% right for our next campaign.

O’Neill continued:

‘There have been some floating particles in the ankle that might have been there for some time or might have broken off in his rehab.

‘We will know better about that by the middle of next week but I think the idea is that it is best to get the surgery done now.’
