Bouma’s Goodbye

Bouma is proud to have been a Villan and delighted we took him to heart, especially the concern he says fans showed him during his unfortunate injury.

Speaking on the Official Site as Bouma I suppose ‘officially’ left B6 he was full of praise for the faithful and admitted he was very emotional when he said goodbye properly to the home crowd at halftime against Blackburn.

Boum Boum’s appearance was greeted by rapturous applause and he did intend on speaking to the fans as he waved goodbye, but found himself too overwhelmed to put into words what he thinks about the club, and more importantly the fans but he wanted to be sure in this interview, he put the record straight and left nobody in any doubt about his joy at being a part of this wonderful club.

‘It was emotional at half time during the Blackburn game saying goodbye to the fans – that was hard, trust me.

I couldn’t say a thing. I wanted to talk on the microphone and address the tremendous supporters but I just couldn’t do it.’

Adding had he taken the mic he would’ve choked and found it extremely difficult to not shed some tears.

‘The fans will always hold a special place in my heart. They were one of the guiding lights in me getting fit again – the encouragement they have me was incredible.

‘It didn’t matter how long I was out injured, they were always there for me, cheering for me, asking how I was. I am so grateful for that.’

Bouma also reveals his delight at becoming a fans favourite, describing the feelings of knowing he was held in such high regard as ‘genuinely so special’ and that it made him feel ‘honoured’.

So the time has come for Boum Boum, the Boummeister, Freddy B – to move on. But it’s not the end.

‘There’s no doubt I will return to the club to watch some games. When I quit football I will be looking to come back to Birmingham. Villa will always stay with me.’
