The Daily Mail have a report saying Villa have made an inquiry for the services of England winger Stewart Downing.

The Middlesbrough man is currently sidelined with a foot injury he picked up in the game against Villa but could potentially return to action some time in October. The Mail claim we’ve asked about a loan deal with a view to a permanent move attached.

Spurs and Liverpool have also been linked as Boro look to balance the books with a high profile sale or two following their relegation.

The Birmingham Post however says Villa’s interest in Stewart Downing as well as midfielder Tuncay Sanli have cooled. About the only blinking thing that is cool at the moment?!

The Sol Campbell link has returned. The 34-year-old former Arsenal and Spurs defender is now a free agent and he told Sky Sports News:

‘There’s a few options out there. I’m out of contract and I’m going to listen to different offers. With Portsmouth they have to organise themselves and there’s a lot of things happening there. I want to make the right choice. In the next two to three years I want to be in the right situation. The chairman, the manager and people like that, I like them to be really close together to move the club on. At the moment with Portsmouth it just seems there’re a lot of things in the background. It may resolve itself, I don’t know, but for me, as a player, I want to be in the right environment. For at least the next two years, the right environment to be successful.’

I tell you what, the fact my bin men are just about to empty my bin and this week it is the rubbish not the recycling is probably more exciting than the link to Sol?!

According to the Daily Mirror and reported at Vital Wigan Villa are after Titus Bramble and are willing to offer Villa youngster Barry Bannan, wanted back on loan at Nottingham Forest, as part of the deal + £3.5million.

THE BIN MEN ARE HERE…. sorry, just trying to keep the excitement going. Titus Bramble ffs?!?!?!?

Vital Wigan say Bramble has been a ‘revelation’ since joining them and add ‘Sorry Villa, Titus is going nowhere.

The Daily Mail claim that Kevin Doyle was approached by Everton and Aston Villa trying to hijack the deal seeing him move to Wolves but the former Reading player refused to consider the late offers.

He said: ‘The fact that the day the season was over they put in a phone call and had a bid accepted, that interest straight away made me think ‘they’re keen’. They came in and settled things with Reading so they were the first club I spoke to.’

OOOOHHHH, I see, that is how you do it, you decide who you want and you get in there quickly, bid and talk to the player instead of waiting and watching?! Ha, I think I’m getting the hang of this transfer window malarkey!

The Daily Mail say we are after Brazilian fullback Michel Bastos along with a few other un-named Premiership clubs. Apparently Lille want £8million for him which the report suggests is too much for Villa. They claim the Brazil international coach has promised the 25-year-old a place in the senior team if he can secure a move from France to England. He can play at left-back or left midfield, has an eye for goal and is a free-kick and penalty specialist. In 97 appearances for Little, he has scored 25 goals.

  • sol campbell looks more likely and maybe im warming to the idea is something wrong wit me?

  • or left midfield Villan57 + it isn’t as strong a league, but nevertheless, his stats don’t look too shabby do they?! Not sure why the report would claim that £8million would be seen as too much either?

  • if £8mill is too much for us to spend on a decent left back, i forsee a lot of crappy championship players coming to villa, why is o’neil so tight when it comes to spending, we have a billionaire owner who is actually willing to back us with lots of cash to spend, please o’neil spend some cash soon or you will have to go so we can have a manager who is willing to buy players !!!, rant over, lol. god its frustrating been a villa fan

  • Bramble !! good God NO ! for Bramble and Knight read Laurel and Hardy ! I cant see this one being true myself – i need to lie down now !!

  • Might be a weak league Fear but a 30 yard free kick into the top corner like a missile still goes in in any league !

  • “He can play at left-back or left midfield”. He’ll never fit in at B6 then – Villa fans can’t accept that midfielders and wingers may be asked to play at full back …

  • If that guy is a left back, I’d love to know how many goals Lille have conceded! Bloody exciting player judging by that. (Do we do exciting?)

  • I normally don’t take any notice of the drivvel written in the tabloids, as you may know………but when I read this about Bramble my heart sank…..are we that desperate to even consider this ? is MON ?? on the Brazilian, you may say the French league isn’t that strong but a lot of Wengers players have come from there over the years……..

  • Heskey is not the same thing as bramble,We are not in for that fat prat.Knight did well whenever called upon last season by the way scoops.I was going to reply to some of the negative crap written by a few others but you know what, i just can`t be arsed argueing with fools anymore,And my binmen are here.

  • lerner i was having a bit of fun !! get over it knight did do ok most the time did u see him in moscow btw ! my point is we need 2 strong centre backs knight and bramble r hardly mcnaught and evans are they- or am i just being negative ?

  • One thing you can say about Titus Bumble is that he is good for ten goals a season – for the opposition, that is. Surely, we are not that desperate arer we. I was going to say “God help us” but then He only helps those who put in a bit of effort themselves. Getting Bumble does not come into that category.

  • Michel Bastos is an excellent player, far too good to keep on playing in France, but he has never been a left back…

  • Please not Bramble, he looks good in a Wigan team but is a step further back than knight!

  • According to other football sites, Villa have dismissed their interest in Titus Bramble. phew…

  • i notice u dont knock people who laff @ Campbell but i guess they r humorous not negative- we r all entitled to post our comments m8y.

  • bbc have update saying the club have denied the link to Bramble. Thank god for that. Now lets hope we have a signing by the end of the week.
