The Daily Mail have a report saying Villa have made an inquiry for the services of England winger Stewart Downing.

The Middlesbrough man is currently sidelined with a foot injury he picked up in the game against Villa but could potentially return to action some time in October. The Mail claim we’ve asked about a loan deal with a view to a permanent move attached.

Spurs and Liverpool have also been linked as Boro look to balance the books with a high profile sale or two following their relegation.

The Birmingham Post however says Villa’s interest in Stewart Downing as well as midfielder Tuncay Sanli have cooled. About the only blinking thing that is cool at the moment?!

The Sol Campbell link has returned. The 34-year-old former Arsenal and Spurs defender is now a free agent and he told Sky Sports News:

‘There’s a few options out there. I’m out of contract and I’m going to listen to different offers. With Portsmouth they have to organise themselves and there’s a lot of things happening there. I want to make the right choice. In the next two to three years I want to be in the right situation. The chairman, the manager and people like that, I like them to be really close together to move the club on. At the moment with Portsmouth it just seems there’re a lot of things in the background. It may resolve itself, I don’t know, but for me, as a player, I want to be in the right environment. For at least the next two years, the right environment to be successful.’

I tell you what, the fact my bin men are just about to empty my bin and this week it is the rubbish not the recycling is probably more exciting than the link to Sol?!

According to the Daily Mirror and reported at Vital Wigan Villa are after Titus Bramble and are willing to offer Villa youngster Barry Bannan, wanted back on loan at Nottingham Forest, as part of the deal + £3.5million.

THE BIN MEN ARE HERE…. sorry, just trying to keep the excitement going. Titus Bramble ffs?!?!?!?

Vital Wigan say Bramble has been a ‘revelation’ since joining them and add ‘Sorry Villa, Titus is going nowhere.

The Daily Mail claim that Kevin Doyle was approached by Everton and Aston Villa trying to hijack the deal seeing him move to Wolves but the former Reading player refused to consider the late offers.

He said: ‘The fact that the day the season was over they put in a phone call and had a bid accepted, that interest straight away made me think ‘they’re keen’. They came in and settled things with Reading so they were the first club I spoke to.’

OOOOHHHH, I see, that is how you do it, you decide who you want and you get in there quickly, bid and talk to the player instead of waiting and watching?! Ha, I think I’m getting the hang of this transfer window malarkey!

The Daily Mail say we are after Brazilian fullback Michel Bastos along with a few other un-named Premiership clubs. Apparently Lille want £8million for him which the report suggests is too much for Villa. They claim the Brazil international coach has promised the 25-year-old a place in the senior team if he can secure a move from France to England. He can play at left-back or left midfield, has an eye for goal and is a free-kick and penalty specialist. In 97 appearances for Little, he has scored 25 goals.
