Alan Hutton was lauded by Aston Villa supporters after scoring an incredible solo goal against Birmingham City in Sunday’s Second City derby. He’s scored only three goals in 186 appearances in all competitions for the club since his 2011-move from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Scottish international picked up the ball from inside his own half and beat numerous Birmingham players before finishing low into the bottom corner to wrap up a 4-2 win. It was one of the best goals of his career and drew praise from fans on social media.

Hutton’s goal has elevated himself to that of a legend among Villa supporters after his efforts in the Second City derby. The 4-2 win has propelled the Midlands outfit to eighth in the Championship with 27 points from 18 games this season. Villa have now won three consecutive league games.

Dean Smith’s men are four points adrift of a playoff place, and only Norwich City have picked up as many points in their last three games as Villa. Sunday’s win wasn’t a vintage performance but it’s an important one. Hutton has been a terrific servant for the club and produced one of his finest moments in a Villa shirt.
