The message and comments have been working overtime on the internet today and although the speculation is exactly that until we get a bid, we’ve found some useful and positive information on Randy Lerner.

Vital member NY Villa said:

Randy Lerner would be a perfect Chairman he has taken the Browns from a old storied franchise back to the play offs in the last 3 years. From what I know of him over here he has placed smart intelligent people incharge. He takes chances with talent even with spotty history and lets them have an opportunity. My concern is that he knows American Football not the Premiership. But as a Chairman 1000 times better that Ellis because he will invest and he not look to make money just for him. But is he really interested?

Guess that will be a question we’ll get answered one way or the other over time.

He added in another comment: Check this out http://www.dawgbones.com It is a site like ours but it gives you some idea of what the fans think of their Chairman………..slightly different from us.

The DawgBones.com site published the following article today:

Browns Owner Looking To Expand

They mention the speculation and say: ‘There is president for such a purchase to take place. Current Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner, Malcolm Glazer, purchased Manchester United, another English soccer team, in 2003. Fans of Aston Villa are naturally sceptical, but know that Lerner brings not only experience in owning a professional sports franchise, but a lot of money as well.

Adding ‘Lerner has continued to show a commitment to tradition and a business acumen second to none. He is very much a hands off owner when it comes to everyday events with the club. He hires people and expects them to do their job without having to hold their hand.’

As with any link, in the board room, cheque book open, is when we can all relax!

  • From what I’ve read though USA, he wouldn’t profess to be an expert in every aspect of running a football club. Seems his take on business is to put top quality people, experts in their field, into key positions, allowing them to oversee the day to day ru

  • Let’s all just hold our breath for a minute and count to 50.

Haven’t we seen this before? Billionaire from another country who will buy the Villa and the title?

Let’s all just hope that THIS time, he’s for real. After all, Man U seem to be doing OK

  • GetEllis out and move on to the 21st century, Hes done his bit time for some fresh blood and money COYS

  • How can you guys be serious? A guy call Randy Learner running a football team. Sounds good to me. Bring cheer leaders ON!

  • Evoflash… why hold your breath for a minute and count to 50? Why not 60.. makes more sense if you’re holding it for a minute.. or why count at all? let the minute do that for you… ANYWAY…. Couple of points… 1. Maybe he’ll rename you the

  • I don’t want to buy the titile, I’d rather follow the MUTD and Arsenal models and build something that is stable and will last for 20 years. Mark my words, if Abramovic goes the only difference between Chelsea before and after him will be the difference

  • Well said VOTN… I agree with you. But how many villa fans would agree? I’m sure most would happily accept the money and silverware that came with it, forgetting the possible consequences!
Obviously I’d rather you did neither, buy it or work to win it !

  • Whoever takes over will be better than Ellis as long as thy’re there for the good of the club and not to asset strip.

  • I agree with VOTN…although the title would be nice, I’d rather it didn’t come at the expense of people like Gabby, Cahill, Davis etc. Surely a slow building process is required, and building a team around our young players, rather than throwing millions
