Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has clearly been brushing up on the history books at B6!

Following last night’s utterly dominating victory over lowly Reading thanks to second half goals from Birkir Bjarnason, Conor Hourihane and Scott Hogan, we of course took a three nil victory and kept slim automatic promotion hopes alive.

With five changes made by Bruce to the starting line up after recent disappointments on a results front, one man clearly stood out across the 90 minutes though and our Icelandic international took praise from the gaffer.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game for his post match press conference, Bruce said of the 29 year old.

“It’s arguably his best game for us, particularly when he topped it off with a goal like that. But he was very good and it was his best display for us.”

Following his January switch from FC Basel, Bjarnason does now have four goals to his name in a total of 33 appearances and many fans think we see him at his best when he’s pushing forward as opposed to simply holding back and looking to break up play and his strike yesterday evening will only intensify those particular thoughts.

What stood out for me in Brucie’s comments though.

“I also said to him when the crowd say shoot you don’t have to do it every time! He’s smashed about four into the Holte End.”

Difficult not to think back to a certain Mr Hitzlebeefburger as I’m convinced at some point he must have tried to score from a goalkick – he tried from everywhere else – and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Maybe Bruce has a point, but if Bjarnason can score once for every four fans he hits in the Holte End, I’d say make it eight and don’t leave the fans in the North Stand lonely!

If he can hit a certain fan in the Trinity I’d consider that a bonus to be honest.
