Manager Steve Bruce has said he’s hoping for progress in our goalkeeper search in the next 24/48 hours as he still eyes two or three new additions to the group.

Bruce was speaking to the Official Site whilst out with the first teamers at our Portugal training camp, and he was mildly confident that the goalkeeping issue would be resolved one way or another by Monday.

Speaking on Friday he explained.

‘We are still hoping to bring two or three additions into the club. I hope we can do a bit of business pretty soon. The good thing is that if you can get the players in and settled before the season starts, it`s always an enormous help.’

As for the goalkeeping situation more specifically, he went on to say.

‘We hope to be able to announce something in the next 24/48 hours if we can. That would be ideal. It`s no big secret that I am still hoping we can tie up Sam Johnstone from Manchester United.’

Adding.

‘I think that`s still ongoing but ultimately we have to respect Manchester United. I know they go on tour on Sunday. We will see what develops in the next 24/48 hours.’

What that means for the speculation surrounding the potential of a Joe Hart loan from Manchester City, well you can decide on that yourself.

It’s definitely a position we’ve got to get filled quickly now. The odds for Villa to get promotion this time are much shorter and we are the bookies favourites. You can check out BetVictor Promo Code for the best deals. Being favourites due to the signing of John Terry is all well and good, but that can’t be the be all and end all this summer, large squad or not, we only finished 13th last season. Some key additions (and sales) are still needed.

Still think looking at loaning keepers, unless we have an option to buy at the end of the season, isn’t what a club our size should be looking to do. We HAVE to be building for the future not just the here and now don’t we? It is one thing being promoted, it’s another staying up, consolidating and then going for the top places in the Premiership as our owner Tony Xia says he is determined to see us do.

One of the major problems Bruce has is clearing out the highly paid ‘junk’ or players he doesn’t want. Good luck with that Steve!
