Birmingham Mail reporter Gregg Evans is reporting that Steve Bruce is waiting on the go-ahead from the club to make a number of additions in the backline.

No transfer shortlist has been drawn up as of yet, but the club’s backroom staff and scouts have been looking at potential targets just in case they are given the nod to sign players.

Robert Huth, Moses Odubajo and Michael Hefele are all said to be in the club’s sights but any decision on new signings will be made at the “start of next week.”

Conversations with free agents are believed to have already taken place, but the club’s financial position means no official proposals have been made yet.

Huth, in particular, is said to be prepared to take a significant wage cut to make the move to Villa Park, but whether we will make an offer for the German, we will have to wait and see.

It’s good to see that the Bruce and his staff are making plans for the new season, but it seems that the club are not going to make moves for any player until it becomes clearer what financial constraints will be in place.
