Manager Steve Bruce has now held his pre match press conference ahead of Aston Villa’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Making the trip to Hillsborough with our seven match winning streak coming to an end, defeat to Fulham and a disappointing draw against Preston North End has got bums twitching once more and we continue to be without Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah for the next match.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media today to discuss the game, Bruce knew there was only one way to deal with our recent slump and that was to pull our socks up and work harder to show improvement once again.

‘We’re all disappointed when we don’t win games. But the art of this league is it requires you to get on with it and get back to winning ways – it’s quite simple. It was a tough week results wise but it’s another challenge for us tomorrow. We knew it was going to be a difficult week, but the games come thick and fast. Let’s try and win the match if we can.’

The key point being the last sentence their I think ‘try’ and win it. Don’t sit back, don’t fondle the ball around the backline and play tippy tappy for half an hour until the pressure gets to us and the opposition go on the attack – go at the opposition like we know we can do.

Part of that will be down to which player takes which role but there are still options without Jack and Adomah even if they aren’t perfect options, and of course Callum O’Hare is involved in some capacity this weekend and that gives us an additional option and it sounds like Rushian Hepburn-Murphy may get another crack soon as well.

‘Rushian’s injuries have been disappointing this season but he’s played four or five games in a row now. Callum, on the other hand, has been in my thoughts since the EFL Cup game at Colchester in August. We know what he can do but such has been the form of the team that he hasn’t been called upon. But he’s always been in my thinking and I’ve got no problems at all in selecting him if I have to. He’s in the squad for tomorrow, so we’ll wait and see.’

Now if we have the boost of Lewis Grabban being passed fit late on, that only adds to our chances of finding a Plan B way of attacking.

Bruce did also say that following the game against Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season we ‘owe them one’ so prove that point and go at them!
