A linked we mentioned yesterday has returned in the Sun today who say that both Aston Villa and Birmingham are after Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia who today is rated at £8million. I say today because different reports and different reporters make up different valuations… oh the joy of transfer gossip!

This is a funny one and one that I really can’t see. The Guardian reckon Birmingham City are after Zat Knight. Well, they got Liam Ridgewell and Villa fans are still thanking him for his own goal…! BUT, Zat was a Villa fan as a kid, surely that makes the move to our local rivals unlikey? According to the report Alex McLeish would like the 29-year-old as well as Bobo Balde from Celtic.

The Blues are also being linked with Villa midfielder Craig Gardner. I could see that one but unless we can seriously add to our numbers, do we want to let more players leave, especially players as versatile as Gardner? Must admit I’d love to see him get his chance in midfield but am not convinced he will at Villa. Hmmm. Difficult one, the lad will certainly want more regular football at this stage of his career but the moves from Villa to Blues is a very difficult one isn’t it?

Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong has been respectful to the Toon army by saying he’d leave Newcastle United if they get relegated this Sunday. There is nothing like some nice positive thinking and that is nothing like some nice positive thinking! Anyway, we’ve been linked to him before so I thought I’d mention it!

One gossip site has linked us with Middlesbrough’s Robert Huth. I say linked, there is no real substance, no quotes or sources, so just a wild stab in the dark perhaps as we were linked to him before he moved from Chelsea to Middlesbrough and with the retirment of Martin Laursen the press know we need a replacement!

We’ve been linked on with a £9million bid for Spanish 27-year-old left-back José Mane who plays for Almeria. The player is keen to move to the Premiership saying ‘I’m an older player now with great ambition and the challenge of playing in the Premier League would be special to me.’

Another snippet with no quote or source is an apparent race between Villa and Birmingham City for Argentine midfielder Lucas Biglia who plays for Anderlecht. The 23-year-old is apparently valued at £8million. Wiki details on the dude: Click Here

Reports in France have apparently linked Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton with 25-year-old Paris Saint Germain striker Guillaume Hoarau. Can’t see any real details or reasons other than the departure of his teams manager. Wiki on the dude who scored 17 goals in 32 games last season: Click Here

  • Fear, you missed one. West Ham apparently looking to off-load injury-prone striker Dean Ashton and hope Villa or Newcastle come back in for him. I would love the guy, despite injury problems, but I think that the signing of Heskey means he wont be coming! That would make 3 BLUFs (Big Lump Up Front) with the man who is bigger than me and you

  • didn’t see that one deano, where was it?! Would have loved Ashton a few years ago but not now due to his awful injury record.

  • defo a lot of bull but for some strange reason, I do really enjoy all the transfer gossip, same as when there are manager changes, I love all the links and rumours…!

  • deano.avfc why on earth would you want to see ashton at the villa the guys is only good for half-a-dozen games a season! we will always have a small squad and players like him will spend too much time in the physio room.

  • Biglia looks a decent talent, but why are we linked with a left back?? Bouma, Shorey, even Milner (MON seems to play him evry where else) make that link a right load of old arse!!

  • I have always rated him. To be honest I have always liked a BIG number 9 in the Shearer mould to play alongside a pacy striker. A bit like Carew and Gabby. Ashton is similar to Shearer whilst also having a technical ability in a supporting role. I understand about his injuries but when fit he is surely England squad material – rather him than Heskey. But, I repeat, it will not happen if we keep Carew and Heskey so its not even worth talking about.

  • I’m with you Jonathan. Absolutely love the rumours and gossip of the transfer windows. Obviously you have to sift the nonsense from the possible, but once that has been achieved, I can discuss the stuff until the cows come home. Keep it coming!

  • Aint you just glad that Bobo Balde is linked to The Big Eck and his shower, and not us?
