Back during the buildup to the January transfer window, Aston Villa were tentatively linked with a possible move for Burnley and England goalkeeper Tom Heaton, but that speculation came to an end with the arrival of Lovre Kalinic.

With the growing speculation about Kalinic’s future with Nantes one club to already be linked with him, and with our interest reportedly cooling in Stoke’s Jack Butland, it’s not a great surprise to see links with Heaton reappear.

With the 33-year-old turning down a contract and only having one year remaining at Turf Moor, The Daily Mail were the latest to recycle the rumours but they did claim that with Butland’s fee being problematic, we had now made a firm enquiry for Heaton’s services.

To say the report is sparse on details would seriously underplay it as there’s more about Butland and the signing of Tyrone Mings in fairness, but I guess this is going to turn into Heaton week again – and there will definitely be plenty of fans who like the idea.
