Award winning, or is that actually multi award winning groundsman Jonathan Calderwood has scooped Groundsman of the Year for the second time.

Calderwood pipped Stokie groundsman Andy Jackson to the Institute Of Groundsmanship award at a ceremony in York last night. Calderwood previously won this award back in 2009.

Speaking to the Official Site following the honour, he said:

‘It’s a great honour, the IOG vote is based on votes cast by professional groundsmen from all sports – not just football – and other industry leaders too. I am very proud but a massive amount of praise has to go to all of my team for the hard work and dedication they put into making sure that the pitch at Villa Park, as well as all of the pitches at Bodymoor, remain up to our very high standards. There were some good pitches in the mix this season, none more so than Andy’s at the Britannia. I am pleased to have come out on top in that battle, let’s hope the first team do too tomorrow.’

See what he did there eh!

As some will know, or maybe not? Calderwood and his team not only look after the Villa Park pitch, but also the seven full size grass pitches, three goalkeeping areas, six junior pitches and three full size 3G synthetic pitches at Bodymoor and the award is is recognition of their high standard of upkeep.

I doubt it’ll be the last award Jonathan wins during his tenure at the club, well done!
