According to the Birmingham Mail John Carew might not be that far away to a return from injury although no dates are pencilled in as yet.

Carew has been out for a couple of months with his back injury which also affects his hip. This has led to him missing the last 13 games and the ones before that he wasn’t usually starting following the ‘Ajax incident’!

His agent Per Flod said recently he feared the striker could be out for longer than first thought but Villa boss Martin O’Neill has re-stated he is optimistic the player will return soon.

‘John is making progress as well which is encouraging. You cannot put a definitive date on things like this but we are encouraged. He is feeling much, much better and in a week or so he has another appointment with the specialist. We are treating things on their merits. He has been out doing some training but he hasn’t joined in with the team.’

Be interesting to see when he returns if he has more competition with a purchase or two. I’d not expect him to walk straight back into the team after a lengthy lay off either. Be interesting to see how much longer he is out, surely it won’t be longer than 3 months in total?!

John Carew, Carew!

Hmmm.

The same report says Wilfred Bouma could be in line for a return in the not too distant future following his horrific ankle injury picked up against Odense in July. Must admit it was horrible to see, I was right in line with it and it didn’t make a pretty sight at all!

O’Neill said: ‘Freddie is doing a little bit of training now, he is working his way back in again. Fitness is a big thing but at the moment, in terms of being able to do running and things like that, he has been doing really fine. We are taking it on a day-to-day basis.’

Can’t wait to see Freddie back, hopefully it won’t take him long to get back to the form he was showing at the end of last season, he was turning into a mighty fine defender for us.
