John Carew has said to the Evening Mail he would love to extend his contract at Villa, even though he has two years left on his current deal.

Since moving to us from Lyon on a swop deal involving some player who’s struggled since, Carew’s has been quite up and down in terms of form, injuries and application.

This season he has hit 9 goals, and over the last few weeks has started to look absolutely phenomenal for us upfront and although considered a nomad given the number of clubs and countries he’s visited during his career, he appears to be absolutely adoring life at Villa Park.

‘Would I sign for longer? Absolutely, but that is down to the club and whether they are still happy with me.

It has been a good season for me. Injuries have cost me only six or seven games.

‘I really love being here. The fans have been fantastic.’

Carew experience will really show on the European stage I think, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to have an educational affect on our younger players already.

‘I am only 28 but I have been lucky to have experienced a lot. And I try to bring all that experience from playing every season in the big matches in the Champions League and European Cups – I try to pass that on to the players here.’

Carew also admits his form has been somewhat wayward since he first moved here, but he believes such fluctuations are normal for every player, but he’s pleased with his own improvement this season and he says that given the disappointment the players felt at drawing with Arsenal, it shows exactly how far the club have come in such a short period of time.

‘That is normal for every player, it is not special to just me. You will have periods when your form goes up and down, but generally I think my form has been pretty good.

‘It is disappointing. It feels like a loss of two points.

‘Arsenal created very little. Before the match if you’d said we would get one point we’d have been happy but we feel a bit disappointed.’
