Reports today are suggesting that Scott Carson is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur who, it is widely believed, are willing to offload Paul Robinson following a series of disastrous mistakes.

I don’t know whether there is any substance to the claim that Spurs want him and that Carson will snub them in favour of Villa as the quotes from the keeper don’t mention the rumours, however they do show the high esteem Martin O’Neill is held in by the highly rated shot stopped.

Carson said: ‘Martin O’Neill has been different class since I have been at Aston Villa. He has helped bring a new level of confidence to my game. When I got sent off against Manchester United in September he stuck with me when he didn’t have to. That really lifted my spirits and helped my confidence grow.’

Adding, ‘It really made a big difference and hopefully I can repay him. He has loads of enthusiasm which he passes along to his players and you can see that by the way we have been playing in the past few weeks.’

Certainly some great positivity coming from the players towards the Villa boss. Lets hope Carson becomes a regular for England and that Martin O’Neill doesn’t!
