Jlloyd Samuel has said ‘it could be time for a fresh challenge’ amidst reports saying that Charlton are about to make a move for him.

The left back has fallen down the pecking order at Villa since the arrival of Dutch International Wilfed Bouma and has even sat on the bench whilst Gareth Barry filled the slot when Bouma picked up his knee injury.

Samuel has only played one game since October, although he has suffered from a few injuries keeping him out of contention. Whether O’Leary can afford to let the player leave is another matter, especially as Bouma isn’t expected to return to the team for another two weeks and Barry is suspended for this weekends game against West Ham. With no other obvious left back cover, Jlloyd is surely certain to play?

Samuel started his career as a schoolboy with the Addicks. Some reports suggest he would jump at the chance of moving back to London.

He told his own ‘icons’ site that ‘My future at Villa is uncertain. It could be time for a fresh challenge. I’m paid to play football and that’s what I want to do. I’ve only played one first-team game since the end of October and I’d like to be playing more. It has been hard to cope with being out of the side for so long.’
