Martin O’Neill has told the official site that Chris Sutton is getting frustrated that he has had to miss so many games with a vision problem.

I had a vision problem once, whenever I drank I got beer goggles and ….. I digress.

Sutton has been out since December 23 with a similar problem that laid Paul Scholes low for so long last season.

O’Neill explained: ‘I spoke to Chris on Monday night again. He is obviously pretty disappointed with the fact that it has taken so long. It is a general frustration with him, but I will hold out and see what develops. Obviously Chris would love to have the news coming through, and he would be prepared to play again if he could get any sort of a guarantee that another knock on the head wouldn’t give him any chance of recovering his vision, or in fact make it worse.’

Adding: ‘With the best will in the world at the moment, no one can give him that assurance so he is in an area of confusion. It is one of those where you never know, it might just suddenly start to come good and it may never change at all. The ‘not changing’ bit is still not his major concern. If he thought it wasn’t going to change but never get any worse by being hit on the head again, I think he would happy.’

‘I think at the end of the day Paul Scholes is someone he should have a look at. Maybe we should find out a wee bit more about that particular injury.’

Be interesting to see Chris Sutton and John Carew up front together, the opponents defences would certainly be out muscled. Shame Sutton isn’t a few years younger, remember him at Blackburn Rovers with Alan Shearer? Lethal and shot Rovers to the league title!
