James Chester was awarded the Fans’ Player of the Season at an award ceremony last night.
The centre-back has been part of a defence that has conceded less than a goal a game this season, giving us the third best defensive record in the Championship behind the top two, Wolves and Cardiff:
And tonight's first award is Supporters' Player of the Season and that has been won by James Chester ?
Well deserved, Chezzy.#AVFC pic.twitter.com/zAgjMmi0H4

On Twitter, most supporters believe that the 29-year-old was fully deserving of the prize, but a few did question the quality of the trophy that was given out:
correct choice but could have coughed up for a bigger/better trophy ?

Some great contenders with Johnstone, Terry, Snoddy, Adomah but this guy absolutely deserves it…..every single game he does it, he just does it….well done Chezza – totally deserved!

Verdict:
Our no.5 has been very consistent throughout the season and has captained the side ably in the absence of John Terry when the former England star has been out injured.
He has also had to develop an understanding with more than one centre-half partner, with Mile Jedinak and on occasion Christopher Samba having been drafted into the starting line up by Steve Bruce during the course of the campaign.
