Cup Place Not Guaranteed

Brad Guzan has said he isn’t taking his Wembley place for granted, despite playing in every round previously in the Carling Cup.

Speaking on the Official Site Guzan explained that there are plenty of matches, and plenty of things can happen before the Cup Final appearance on Febuary 28th.

‘We have got a lot of games before that, when we get there we cross that bridge.’

Guzan adds that he considers the Semi Finals against Blackburn as the highlight of his career so far but explains it was never planned that he would play all of the Cup games when he joined, it ‘just kind of worked out that way.’

‘You cherish those moments as a player and it is an exciting time.’

There have been plenty of good comments both on the front page and in the forum on whether or not we go with our strongest team ie Friedel, or keep faith with Guzan as he played such a significant role in getting us to the Final.

Personally I’m torn, fair’s fair – he was a little more wobbly against Blackburn than in previous rounds or other cup games but whether fans class that as being the fault of the ‘occasion’ or simply that it was just a bad day at the office, seems to ultimately shape the opinions on which selection Monny should make.

In the game these days players have very little sentiment for the club, I think I’d like to see us show a bit of sentiment to Guzan on this occasion.

Afterall, if he is to be our future number 1 and Monny is determined to aim for Silverware and Top 4 finishes then he needs the experience doesn’t he.
