West Bromwich Albion Chairman Jeremy Pearce has explained the season long loan deal of Curtis Davies to Aston Villa was done – instead of a direct sale – for accountanting and not football reasons.

The 22-year-old defender will be joining Villa in the summer for a feel of £8.5million.

‘Curtis will go next July 1, we can say that with a fair degree of certainty. That was a decision made for financial structuring rather than a footballing one.’

‘Fair degree of certainty’? Does that mean we can change our minds still if we want? Sounds like it doesn’t it?

Pearce said his fairwells to Davies by fining him a weeks wages after he refused to play for the Baggies!
