Curtis Davies, who must have been relieved to have retained his starting place after being subbed in the previous game against Chelsea, said he was happy with the defence getting back to a clean sheet v Pompey.

He told AVTV:

‘We are happy with the point. It was always going to be a tough game against Portsmouth. We will take the confidence from the clean sheet and the main thing is we limited them to very few chances. We also created plenty of openings ourselves.’

Suppose if I was going to ask a question or two here I would put forward – should we be happy with a point at home v Pompey? And how many chances did we create when we only had 3, if that, shots on target? Unfortunately one of those chances fell to Davies with an open goal he unfortunately hit row z in the Holte End..! As per usual, I have questions but not answers…!

Davies added, ‘The worrying thing would be if we weren’t creating those chances. The positive thing is the clean sheet – particularly as a defender. The Chelsea game may have been 2-0 but it could have been 5-0 – they were tearing us apart. It was one of their best games but we weren’t at it. It was important to prove ourselves defensively again and I think we did that.’
