And the transfer gossip for today?

Apparently, and the story is covered in various papers this morning, Villa have agreed a £9million fee for West Bromwich Albion defender Curtis Davies. Villa and the Baggies have been at loggerheads all through the summer for the WBA captain but if these reports are to be believed, Martin O’Neill has finally got his man and his second central defender in 24 hours following the arrival of Zat Knight. The reports say that the deal for Davies will begin with a one season loan.

Another report, this time in the Telegraph, has us in a fight for the signature of Spurs striker Jermain Defoe with Chelsea and Portsmouth.

You watch, all the talk of us, Pompey and Chelksi going for him, Manchester United will pop up and nick him from all three!

Pompey, it is claimed, will turn to the England striker if they can’t attract Nicolas Anelka to Fratton Park. Blimey, do I wish we were in for that sulky Frenchman or what?! He might be a pain but he is a pain who can score out of nothing! Villa are also apparently in the hunt for Defoe – a link that just won’t go away – as are Chelsea who it is believed are willing to throw in Shaun Wright-Phillips as part of the deal. If Shaun Wright Phillips is available…. oh sod it, you know what I’m going to say!

No matter who we are linked with, we’ve got to get a wriggle on, there is less than 48 hours to go in this transfer window and we still need two right-backs as well.

There has certainly been no rhyme or reason to this transfer window, I’m not sure we’ve really improved as yet and without much needed reinforcements, mid-table is surely the best we can expect from our stretched squad, especially judging by our lack of a 15-20 goal a season striker?

If they aren’t already, get your fingers crossed!
