Although a spectator himself of late, Curtis Davies is looking forward to seeing his team mates secure a European Place for next season.

Davies has been out since rupturing his Achilles tendon at Arsenal two months ago, but he’s convinced he’ll return to the team with European fixtures on the cards.

Speaking on the official site, he said that everyone in the camp was confident that we could secure 5th Place in our last two matches, but nobody is expecting Wigan to be a rollover.

‘We’re confident that we can clinch fifth. We know that Everton have still got to go to Arsenal. But the main thing is we’ve got to win our games – if we don’t we haven’t got a chance.

‘We’ve got to keep pushing on and with the results we’ve had before the Everton game and the character we showed in the Everton game after going behind twice, it was a big result for us.

‘It will be interesting for the rest of the season. Both teams won’t give it up easily but I still think we can do it.

‘Nothing’s ever a formality in this league. Wigan are still not mathematically safe so they’re going to come here with a purpose to play.’

Davies is also confident that his injury is recovering well and that he may be back earlier than expected.

‘It is coming along, I have just come out of my boot which was holding me back but I am out cycling, rowing, and running on a trampoline.

‘I am not running on a hard surface yet, but the main thing is I am out of the boot now and I can step up the rehab now.

‘I believe I can be back before September – whether it is with a few weeks training in August and then playing or whether that is playing at the end of September after training in early September.

‘I am very confident the rehab is going well – the surgeon is happy, the doctor is very happy so everyone is given me the right signs to stay confident.

‘I am going to keep striving and work really hard over the summer and hopefully come back stronger and fitter.’
