Aston Villa defender Ulises de la Cruz doesn’t appear to be scared of taking England on this afternoon and believes the heat – it is expected to hit 90 degrees this afternoon in Stuttgart – will be in Ecuador’s favour.

He said: ‘I hope the weather is hot because that will be very good for our players. It won’t be easy for England and we really want to stay in the competition. This is a very special game for all of us and the first 20 or 30 minutes will be very important. I understand English football and the mentality of the players, but this is a very different type of game with different tactics and everybody will be very motivated.’

‘I have played against big teams before and England are certainly a big team, but we are not nervous. It’s the same for us as facing Brazil or Argentina.’

He also says this is a historic game for Ecuador because they have never progressed out of the group stages before.
